I finally have my girls
to hang out with
to gossip
I finally have my girls
to lean on
to love
I finally have my girls
friends for a lifetime
there when I need them

we head out for a night on the town
enjoying each others gorgeous company

he knows best
he is there for me
he gives me advice
to stay away from the temptation of you
the person who pulled me in so close
the person who let me go
only wanting me to still be there for you

he holds my hand
as you lay your head on my chest
he looks me in the eye and reminds me
that i know better

does he really know best?
or is he just fighting for a different team
his own team
not mine

my conscience is torn
because the devil and the angel
are sitting on each of my shoulders
ripping me apart

hard work and determination is supposed to get you somewhere
but where
everything happens for a reason
but what is that reason
when will the pieces of this puzzle we call life fit together
my life as a student
my life in music
my life as a leader
my life as a teacher
my life as a sister
my life as a daughter
my life as an ate
my life as a niece
my life as a granddaughter
my life in work
my life at school
my life at home
my life in family
my life in dance

what to do now?
retreat to what has always been there for me
that no one can take away
dance

we dance because we love our bodies
we dance to move
we dance to music
we dance to silence
we dance to exercise
we dance to let go
we dance to become strong athletes
we dance to clear our minds
we love dance because it loves us back
we dance to dance

Attached

I wish I wasn't so God damned attached
becoming attached only makes letting go worse
attached to a way of life
attached to the people you love
clinging on to a life that will soon pass
excited for the next chapter and things to come
still holding beloved experiences near

here I am, growing
following my dreams
looking to all the wonderful years ahead
I have lived like there is no tomorrow
my mortality reminds me to live each day to the fullest
and this is only the beginning
of my beautiful life and journey of becoming old

knowing I have lived and became attached
every step of the way
only proves I love what I do
I will turn back time when I'm old
and remember all that I've been attached to
and know that my attachment happened for a reason
a reason worth living for
loving life
